The Nymphenburg Palace, located in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, is a decorated palace and also the Bavarian rulers summer residence. The palace was commissioned by the electoral couple Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy to the designs of the Italian architect Agostino Barelli in 1664 after the birth of their son Maximilian II Emanuel. Contrary to a common misconception, the Italian name Borgo delle Ninfe (castle of the nymph) was only created in the 19th century. "Castle of the Nymph" is a showpiece of German history and a not-to-miss attraction in Bavaria. It then quickly replaced the nearby Blutenburg Castle as major hunting lodge of the court.
